Brain Injuries Training

Brain injury rehabilitation methodology is always changing. To help community providers stay up to date, IACP provides quality training and offers access to cutting-edge information. For more than 10 years, we have partnered with the Iowa Department of Public Health to increase the number of brain injury service providers in Iowa and help them better serve individuals.

IACP supports those working in this important field by providing in-house training, as well as consulting on challenging cases.

 Program Activities

-  Training for agencies interested in, or already providing, brain injury services
-  American Academy of Brain Injury Specialists certification training
-  Development of individual agency curriculum for staff training
-  Consultation services to help agency staff deal with challenging situations
-  Increasing systems capacity to ensure people with brain injury receive proper supports in alternative settings (such as corrections)
-  Advocacy for individuals experiencing brain injury who have difficulty navigating service delivery systems

Provider Needs Assessment

IACP, in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Public Health, conducts regular surveys regarding brain injury services in Iowa.

The purpose of the survey is to assess:
-  The extent of services currently being provided to individuals diagnosed with brain injury
-  To identify the level of brain injury training in Iowa
-  To uncover barriers discouraging providers from offering services to individuals who have experienced brain injury.

The 2006 and 2010 survey analysis was utilized as an integral part of the IDPH’s State Plan for Brain Injury. This plan was used as a guide for a successful application for a Federal Traumatic Brain Injury grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in 2014. The most recent provider survey and analysis was completed in 2015.
