WHO WE ARE:
Progress Industries is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides services and support for people with physical and intellectual disabilities in central Iowa to realize dreams and exercise real choices about where they live, work and socialize. Progress Industries offers a wide range of comprehensive services for people with life challenges. By providing quality services and community integration, we tackle issues and barriers facing people with disabilities.
Our service model focuses on the abilities of individuals and approaches service delivery as a partnership, respecting the needs and desires of each individual. The person-centered approach allows us to support and respect the people we serve as well as foster their independence.
Our belief is that even though we are a larger organization, size doesn’t stop us from striving to be a nimble organization that is efficient, effective and ensures each client receives the level of service they deserve. P.I. is CARF (Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited for its programs in Community Employment Services, Community Housing, Community Integration and Supported Living.

Progress Industries is seeking a people-focused leader at the top of their game to join the team and lead the company to the next level. We are looking for an individual who is unafraid to advocate on behalf of the organization, its clients, and for our most important asset: our people. Someone that seeks great outcomes, removes roadblocks and drives results through analysis and public and private partnerships. The person we seek is an executor: energized by a variety of activities to utilize their skills while bringing expertise to the situation by developing and executing detailed plans and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure it is correct. This person also ensures what is being done/planned is proactively communicated to prevent unforeseen roadblocks. A year from now, you will look back on all you’ve accomplished and how you carried on a great tradition of financial stability, positive client experiences and organizational successes.
Success Factor Snapshot:
Defining what success “looks like” in the role of the President/CEO/CFO
Within 30 Days –
- Understand Progress Industries and P.I. Foundation corporate, financial and organization structures, as well as guiding policies and procedures.
- Understand the workings of the organization and articulate the mission, vision and values.
- Identify and meet with each direct report team member, with the ability to verbally detail their daily responsibilities along with notes on areas you wish to learn more information.
- Visit a sampling of all service locations to gain insights into a day in the life of our clients and direct support staff.
- Complete introductory meeting with all board members to begin to build an understanding of their expectations of this role.
- Within 60 Days –
- Familiarize yourself with regulatory agencies for our operations.
- Review and understand the annual/strategic plan and annual budget. Review all corporate metrics and past performance. Be able to articulate the short-term goals and budget impact.
- Participate in Strategic Planning session with direct reports and board members.
- Ability to review monthly financials to ensure they are clean and complete financials.
- Visit additional service locations.
- Familiarize yourself with our collective bargaining agreement.
- Within 90 to 120 Days –
- Review with direct reports. prior year performance appraisals, performance goals and development plans.
- Connect with and begin to build relationships with key business and advocacy partners.
- Prepare for and present materials to the Progress Industries and P.I. Foundation Boards of Directors.
Within 6 Months –
- Familiarize yourself with regulatory requirements for our services.
- Identify 2-3 key metrics to monitor and/or improve performance and present to the Board for input/approval.
- Manage an internal tracking and feedback system, to include quarterly updates on success factors for services and financial stability.
Within 1 Year –
- Maintain high-quality services with a knowledgeable and motivated workforce.
- Achieve and maintain implemented financial budget.
- Oversee completion of all regulatory reviews and assessments with minimal deficiencies and maintain good standing with regulatory agencies.
- Identify and present to the Board, 1 to 2 recommendations on how to improve quality of outcomes and increase community partnerships.

Residency:
- Candidate does not need to reside in the city of Newton but preferably reside within 30 minutes of Newton, IA administrative location.
Minimum Requirements:
- Preferred graduate degree, bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a related field and a minimum of five years of supervisory experience.
- Must have demonstrated administrative ability and leadership, plus an understanding of delegating responsibility and authority.
- Must have experience managing a large-scale organization and operating budget.
- Maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s License and a private automobile to carry out job duties.
